Leading Princeton Forward Jonathan Liau Poised For Big Senior Year

Wave Alumni Jonathan Liau returns for his senior year at Princeton after leading the team in scoring with 14 points on four goals and 10 assists in 29 games. Liau, a chemistry major has also excelled off the ice by being named to the ECAC All-Academic Team for the past 3 seasons, 2013, 2104, 2015. Players are eligible for the All-Academic team if they earn a cumulative grade point average of at least a 3.00 on a 4.00 scale or have a GPA over 3.00 over the past three semesters.

Junior Year (2014-15): Led the team in scoring with 14 points on four goals and 10 assists … played in 29 games … scored a power-play goal vs. Colgate on Nov. 8 … tallied a goal in a win over Michigan State on Nov. 28 and earned an assist the next day … scored a power-play goal vs. Dartmouth on Dec. 6 … had an assist against both Union and Rensselaer on back-to-back nights on Jan. 9 & 10 … collected a career-best three-assist game in a 4-1 win over Army on Jan. 28 … tallied the game-tying goal and an assist in a 2-2 tie at Brown on Jan. 31 … named the ECAC Player of the Week on Feb. 2 after leading the league in scoring with five points in three games … picked up an assist in a 2-1 win over Clarkson on Feb. 13 … chipped in two helpers against No. 13 Yale on Feb. 21.

Sophomore Year (2013-14): Played in 29 games … third on the team in scoring with 13 points on two goals and 11 assists … assisted on Princeton’s first goal of the season in a 3-2 OT win over Dartmouth at the Liberty Hockey Invitational … assisted on the Tiger’s third goal in a loss to Brown on Nov. 9 … tallied two assists in a 5-4 OT win over Dartmouth on Nov. 15 and had one the next night against Harvard … had an assist in a 4-3 win at No. 4 Quinnipiac on Nov. 23 … had a two-point game at RPI with a short-handed unassisted goal and an assist … assisted on the team’s first goal in a 2-1 win over Rensselaer on Jan. 10 … set up the team’s first goal at Dartmouth on Feb. 1 … assisted on two goals in a 3-2 OT win over Clarkson in Game 1 of the ECAC series … scored the first goal in Game 3.

Freshman Year (2012-13): Played in 15 games … missed several games at the start of the season because of injuries … scored five points with one goal and four helpers … made his first collegiate appearance at Brown on Oct. 26 … had two assists in a 3-2 OT win over Harvard on Jan. 4 … scored his first career goal at Colgate on Feb.8, a 4-2 win … assisted on both Princeton goals in a 3-2 loss to St. Lawrence on Feb. 16.

Before Princeton: Played the last three years in the USHL … finished his junior hockey career with the Youngstown Phantoms … began 2011-12 with the Omaha Lancers where he scored 15 points in 34 games … played 19 games with the Phantoms, including six in the playoffs, finishing with five points … joined the Lancers in 2010-11 and scored 19 points in 59 games while also competing in three playoff games … a 2011 graduate of St. Paul’s school, the alma mater of Hobey Baker … named all-Independent School League (ISL) in 2010 … the Pelicans were the 2008 ISL runner-up … also played lacrosse.

Personal: Full name is Yi-Ming Jonathan Liau .. born January 17, 1992 … parents are Gavin Liau and YY Yong … has an older sister Gillian (UCSB ’11).
